Description

University President Ernest O. Holland participating in a ground breaking ceremony at the future site of the library named for him. Students stand behind him to the left while seated dignitaries are seated to the right. The picture provides a clear view of the Gymnasium-Armory, later called Old Women's Gym, and eventually the TUB (Temporary Union Building). Built by Josenhans and Allen in 1902 at a cost of $9,749 it was torn down in 1954. The TUB originally stood on the site of the present Holland/New Library addition
