1 bird's-eye view: col., 14 x 19 cm.<br>Inset: Oregon <br>When the Post Office denied the proposed young town of Maxwell, Oregon, permission to use that name, they were forced to choose another. They chose 'Hermiston.' The name came from "Weir of Hermiston," which is a Robert Louis Stevenson novel that one of the settler's had recently read and enjoyed.
